Why Not Join Us

With just on 100 days to go to our Event next February life around the Games office is really starting to hot up. What an exciting event we have in store – 67 sports, over 8000 participants, bands every night, daily entertainment with key note speakers. Wanganui has built up a fine reputation as being an ideal NZ Masters Games host city over the years.   The close proximity of the multitude of venues to the Games Village , excellent organization by very experienced officials, and the magical atmosphere in the main Games marquee each night all help to make a visit to the Friendly River City a very memorable experience. Make sure you're a part of it!

ACC ThinkSafe – Getting Started

With the 2005 Games fast approaching, you should start thinking now about training and preparing for the big event. Preparation, warming up and down, footwear etc all ensure you remain injury free. Did you know that two out of three people participating in team sports last year had a sprain or strain? Many of these injuries could have been prevented.

Advice on getting started can be found by visiting www.nzmg.com – Training Schedules.

Travel and Accommodation

Services have now been set up to assist you in these areas. We are delighted to have teamed up with House of Travel for all your transport needs while Sarah Loveluck is working out of the Games office to help you with any accommodation difficulties. Please visit our website www.nzmg.com for further details.

Although the city is well served, compared with many other provincial cities by way of hotel and motel accommodation, to cater for more than 5000 visitors is a major undertaking. We ask that you book early.

NZ Masters Games clothing merchandise is already selling well in Wanganui. It is the first time in the 16-year history of the Games that the merchandise is available outside of the Games Village with the long-established Wanganui firm of R P London Apparel (131 Victoria Avenue, Wanganui/phone-fax 06 345 7277) handling the pre-Games sales. Alternatively you can buy online from our website. There is a full range of men's and women's merchandise in a wide range of styles and colours – vests, polo neck shirts, t- shirts, jackets, track suits, beanies and caps .

Nightly Entertainment

Live nightly entertainment in the Powerco Games Village has been a highlight of previous ACC Thinksafe NZ Masters Games in Wanganui and 2005 will be no exception.   The Games open on the first Saturday with a combination of the internationally renowned ‘Beat Girls' from Wellington and Dunedin based ‘X Factor', while the closing night will feature the hugely successful ‘Itchycoo Park' band from Wellington. In between you can party to the likes of Rick Steele and the Hot Biscuit Band from Perth , Australia on Tuesday ‘The Mermaids' from Auckland Wednesday (remember Jo Cotton from True Bliss?) ‘The Celine Toner Band' from Napier, Thursday and last year's hit band ‘Mod Squad' on the Friday.

Overseas Entries

From an inaugural entry of 1546 for the first Games in 1989 the ACC Thinksafe NZ Masters Games have developed into a truly international event.   Last year, for example, there were participants from 12 different countries – Australia , Canada , France , Hong Kong , India , Lithuania , Malaysia , Netherlands , Norfolk Island , Sri Lanka , the United Kingdom and USA .   We look to build on those numbers and many of those competitors enjoyed the Games so much they indicated they will return for 2005.
