LINE DANCING

Welcome to the Line Dancing Masters Competition 2005.

This will provide you with general information regarding our event at the next games – please refer to the Entry Form for full details.

DATE: Saturday 12th February 2005
VENUE: Wanganui High School, Purnell St, Wanganui
TIME: 8.45am – Head Judge and Competitors Meeting.
9.30am Start
REFRESHMENTS: Lunch and cold drinks available to purchase.
Tea and coffee available free all day – help yourself.
RULES:

LINE DANCING – Rules and Regulations
Definition of a Line Dance - a choreographed dance is repeated for two (2) repetitions without variations (vanilla).

1. The NZ Masters Line Dancing age limit is 30 plus and is determined as at 1 February 2005.

2. Dance categories: Novice – this is your first competition.
Novice – Duo 30 – 44 45 – 59 60 plus
Novice – Team 30 – 44 45 – 59 60 plus

3. Duo 30 – 44 45 – 59 60 plus
Team 30 – 44 45 – 59 60 plus

4. First dance will be a compulsory Waltz (3 beat) own choice, second choice own choice.

5. Music – Competitors provide own choice of music.
All music to be clearly marked with section and dance track.
Tapes should be cued (please), mini discs or cd’s.
Music should be presented to the Sound Desk Manager prior to the commencement of each section.

6. Rules
Competitors dance at own risk.
A team is 4 to 8 dancers.
Dance time is 10 minutes maximum for two dances.
A competitor can dance down.
A competitor can dance twice ( 2 times), Duo and Team.
Duo waltz only, allowed joining of hands to perform Partner Dancing.
Hat and Skirt work is allowed.
Mirror Imaging is allowed.
Competitors may enter from either or both sides of the floor.

7. Judging will commence from the start of the dance to its conclusion.

8. Competitors can restart their dance after a breakdown, but will lose five (5) points.

9. Competitors must dance in the order as published in the Official Program (unless otherwise arranged by the
Championship Co-Ordinator.

10. Competitors numbers will be called twice. Should the Competitor’s not be present according to the Official dance
Program and without the permission of the Co-Ordinator, go to the end of the program and lose 5 (five) points.

11. Use of any obscene or overly suggestive body movements and flips, splits etc are not considered Line Dancing
movements, and there will be a loss of 5 (five) points.

12. Competitors may use choreography for Line Dancing as defined in the Definition of a Line Dance (see above).

13. All choreographed dances should be of a Line Dance which is generally accepted as being capable of being
taught at Line Dancing classes.

14. Judges decision is final.

15. Judging Category Definition:
Degree of Difficulty: Score Range 1 – 7.
Each of the judges score within the above range.
This score is for the degree of difficulty of the dance selected by contestants rather than the
performance of the dance.
Presentation: Score Range 1 – 15.
Each judge scores 1 – 15 based on overall impression created by the contestants.
Judges score on appearance, teamwork, attentiveness, enthusiasm, enjoyment of dance, presentation,
audience appeal and overall impact.
Execution: Score Range 1 – 17.
Each judge scores 1 – 17 based on overall performance of the contestants.
Aspects such as unity, uniformity, teamwork, style, rhythm, timing, head and arm positions, overall posture,
balance and spacing.

16. Competitors may collect score sheets following completion of the Competition.

2. Novice This is your first competition, no matter how long you have been dancing.
4. Compulsory You have to dance a waltz, 1,2,3 beat, but your choice partner.
5 Music Your choice music for both dances.
6. Dance Down You can dance down into any age group.
You can dance in the Duo in one age section and dance in the Team in another.

Twice You can dance in a Duo and in a Team.

8. Restart If one blows it and the Duo or Team stops that is a breakdown.
10. Late If a problem arises and it could make you late, come to me early in the day, and I will
put you in at the end without loss of points.
11. Judge Up to the Judges. Head Judge has last say.
